Terms of use
These terms are the rules for using Here to Celebrate. By creating or joining an exchange, you agree to them. We've kept them short and plain.
Last updated: October 31, 2026
The short version
- Here to Celebrate is free. Use it to run gift exchanges with people you know.
- Only add people who would expect to hear from you about the exchange.
- Keep your personal link to yourself. Anyone who has it can use your place in the exchange.
- Gifts are bought from shops, not from us. We aren't responsible for what you buy or receive.
- We work hard to keep things running and secret, but the service is provided as it is.
Who we are
Here to Celebrate is a small business based in British Columbia, Canada (“we”, “us”). These terms are between you and us.
Who can use it
- Here to Celebrate is meant to be used by adults.
- Children can take part as managed participants, with a parent or another trusted adult looking after their place and writing their wishlist. Please don't give a child under 13 their own email address in an exchange: keep managing them instead.
Organizing an exchange
- You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email. You're responsible for what happens in the exchanges you organize.
- Only add people you know, who would expect an email about your exchange. Don't use Here to Celebrate to send messages to strangers or to promote anything.
- An exchange can have between 3 and 50 places, including managed participants.
- You can cancel an exchange from its page. Cancelling ends it for everyone, and we don't email anyone about it, so let your group know.
Taking part
- Your personal link opens your place in the exchange without a password. Don't share it. If you think someone else has it, ask for a new link and the old one stops working.
- By adding someone you'll look after (a managed participant), you confirm you're allowed to, for example as their parent.
- Everyone who has joined the exchange can see the wishlists. Don't put anything on a wishlist you wouldn't want the group to see, such as your address or other private details.
Keeping it secret
The site shows each person only who they're buying for, and not even the organizer can see who drew whom, except for the people they manage. We can't control what people tell each other, show on their screens or forward from their inboxes.
What you agree not to do
- Add people without a good reason to think they'd want to hear from you.
- Use someone else's link or sign-in code, or try to find out matches you aren't meant to see.
- Post anything unlawful, hateful, harassing or sexually explicit, or anything that infringes someone else's rights, in an exchange name, message or wishlist.
- Try to break, overload, probe or copy the service, including with automated tools, or get around its limits.
If someone breaks these rules, we may remove content, limit their use or close an exchange. Where we can, we'll tell the organizer first.
Your content
What you write (names, messages and wishlists) stays yours. You give us permission to store it and show it to the people in your exchange, only to run the service. How we handle personal information is in our privacy policy.
Gifts, shops and links
Wishlists can link to other websites. Those shops sell the gifts, not us, and their own terms, prices, delivery and returns apply. We don't check the items on wishlists and aren't responsible for them. Some shop links may earn us a commission if you buy something, at no extra cost to you. Budgets and dates in an exchange are agreements between the people taking part.
We send the emails an exchange needs, such as invitations, “names drawn” and links you ask for. You can turn off reminder emails from the link in any reminder. We don't send marketing email unless you separately sign up for it.
The service is provided as it is
Here to Celebrate is free, and we do our best to keep it working, secure and secret. But we can't promise it will always be available, error-free, or that every email will arrive (some may land in spam). We may change, pause or stop features, and we'll give notice before closing the service where we can.
Limits on our responsibility
As far as the law allows, we aren't responsible for indirect losses, such as hurt feelings over a spoiled surprise, a gift that doesn't arrive, or lost time. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law that can't be limited.
Ending things
Before names are drawn, you can choose “Can't make it” on your page. After that, ask the organizer to remove you. You can stop using Here to Celebrate at any time. To have your information deleted, email [email protected].
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we'll update this page and its date. If a change is significant, we'll also tell organizers by email before it takes effect. Using Here to Celebrate after a change means you accept the new terms.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. If you live in another province, state or country, you keep any protections its consumer laws give you.
